Polegate’s MP Norman Baker has given the thumbs up to the decision to improve traffic flows at the junction of the A27 and the A2270 (the old A22) at Polegate.
The MP has long argued that the junction is no longer adequate and that steps had to be taken to lessen congestion here. Now the Highways Agency has authorised work to commence on Monday 4th February with a scheme that will widen the carriageway by extending the length of the free flow links through the junction.
Norman Baker says:
"I would have preferred a new alignment altogether, to take out this corner, but I am glad that the Agency has agreed to take some action here. There will be some disruption while the works take place but the end result will mean fewer tailbacks at this busy junction."
The plans have also been welcomed by the town’s county councillor, Roy Martin, who says: "This is a much needed scheme that will improve the flow of traffic for people in Polegate."
