Local Lib Dem MP Norman Baker has today welcomed the decision not to close the Jobcentre Plus in Newhaven.
The future of the office in Newhaven had been in doubt for a number of months after it was announced that its closure was being considered by regional management, prompting the MP to write letters both to the relevant Minister and the district management, urging that it stay open.
Speaking on the subject, Norman said: "I am glad to hear that Lynn Conolly, the district manager for Jobcentre Plus, has decided that the Newhaven Jobcentre is to stay open.
"The organisation provides an important service to Newhaven and the surrounding area, allowing people to access benefits as well as look for work. The loss of such a facility would have dealt a serious blow to the town, particularly with significant job losses in the town now beginning to materialise.
"Good news for Newhaven is always welcome."
