Local MP Norman Baker has expressed his extreme concern over a statement made to Parliament today which announced that the Bluetongue Protection Zone has been expanded westwards into Eastbourne.
Last year, Norman was the first MP to raise the issue of Bluetongue in Parliament during a debate last May. At the time he called for a clear government strategy to deal with the threat of the disease.
Speaking about the statement, Norman said:
"Today’s announcement to Parliament that the Protection Zone is being extended westwards into Eastbourne further reinforces my serious concern about the spread of Bluetongue in Sussex and the Government’s apparent lack of a clear and coherent government strategy for dealing with this disease.
"I am therefore today renewing my calls upon the government to ensure that the distribution of the Bluetongue vaccine is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible."
