Local Lib Dem MP, Norman Baker, has today introduced a motion in Parliament congratulating Councillor Bob Peters and Councillor John Cornwell who will, this month, both celebrate having been first elected as independent Councillors over 50 years ago.
Councillor Peters celebrates 50 years of unbroken service to the local community as an independent elected member of Ringmer Parish Council, much of which he has served as Chairman of the council.
Councillor Cornwell, who is also an independent member, was first elected to Barcombe Parish Council in May 1956.
Commenting, Norman said:
"I am very pleased to have been able to introduce this motion to Parliament recognising Bob and John’s outstanding contribution to the local community. They have both made a huge difference to the well-being of their parishes and parishioners over the years and to the wider community of the Lewes District on whose council both have also served.
"Their efforts are much valued and appreciated by local people, particularly by those in the farming community of whom they have been especially supportive. I wish them every success in years to come."
