MP congratulates locals for response to jewel raid

Lewes MP Norman Baker has praised the actions of the various members of the public who acted swiftly to thwart the smash and grab raid on John Clark's jeweller's shop in Cliffe High Street last Thursday. Individuals variously blocked in the robbers' would-be getaway car and stole the ignition keys.

Norman says: "This was a great response to a sudden, unexpected and violent incident. People in Lewes have shown a real public spirit and by doing so made it possible for at least three of the four robbers to be captured. Lewes is a community and acted as one. I am proud to be MP for such a town."
