Lewes bypass resurfacing success for Norman Baker MP

Lewes MP Norman Baker has today welcomed the news that some resurfacing of the Lewes bypass will finally take place in October and November of this year.

For a number of years, Norman has been pressing the Highways Agency to resurface the bypass in an attempt to resolve the concerns that many constituents have about road noise. He has regularly raised the matter with Ministers and recently wrote to the Highways Agency to demand a specific timescale for the work. It is this letter that has generated today's welcome news.

Norman said: "This is good news. Many constituents have contacted me over a number of years to raise their understandable concerns about the noise coming from the road and I share these concerns. I have raised this problem with Ministers and the Highways Agency on a number of occasions over recent years and I am really glad to see that it is now being addressed.

"The resurfacing of the east-bound carriageway will make a big difference to noise emissions from the carriageway and I know that this will be welcomed by all those who live close by. I am disappointed, however, that the opportunity is not being taken to resurface the whole road and I will continue to press for this to be done."
