Local Lib Dem MP, Norman Baker has this week introduced a parliamentary motion to the House of Commons congratulating Councillor Carla Butler on becoming the youngest ever person to chair Lewes District Council, and the youngest ever Chairman nationally.
The motion, which also highlights the under-representation of young people in party politics all over the country, notes the value of a diverse age-mix on local councils and encourages young people to get involved in local politics and their local communities.
Commenting Norman said:
"I am delighted to table this motion congratulating Carla on being the youngest ever Chair of Lewes District Council. She is already proving to be an excellent Chair and is working hard for the people of the Lewes District.
"Although in Lewes and Newhaven we have a good number of young councillors under 30, it is a great shame that there are not more young people nationally coming forward and getting involved in local politics. I hope that Carla's success will show them both that they are very welcome and that the contribution they can make to their local community is extremely valuable."
