Eurostar decision will help Lewes constituents, says MP

Lewes MP Norman Baker has today welcomed the decision by Eurostar to reinstate direct services between Ashford and Brussels. The MP has been campaigning for this move ever since Eurostar withdrew the direct connection, including via a series of meetings with top Eurostar management, the most recent of which was only last week. The formal decision was taken by the Eurostar board shortly afterwards.

Norman Baker, who is also the Lib Dem Shadow Transport Secretary, says: "This is a very welcome move from Eurostar for which I have long been campaigning. The company's CEO, Richard Brown, confirmed to me this morning by phone that a direct service between Ashford and Brussels will be reinstated from December. This will provide one service each day on weekdays, which will be much welcomed by those local businesses here in the Lewes constituency who have contacted me about the matter. There will also be a new weekend service, aimed at the leisure market."
