Local Lib Dem MP, Norman Baker has said he is proud to represent what the Financial Times has today dubbed, 'the bolshiest town in Britain'.
The Financial Times article which writes about the Lewes pound that has recently been introduced to encourage people to shop locally, goes on to talk of the individuality of the town, saying that it is 'the antithesis of a clone town' and that it 'has long had a reputation for being uppity'.
Mr Baker who has represented the town and constituency of Lewes for over a decade, commented:
"I feel very honoured to represent Lewes which is a truly unique and individual town. The fact that Lewes is the antithesis to the clone towns which have become all too common up and down the country is all thanks to an eclectic mix of residents and businesses who do their utmost to make sure that Lewes has resisted the off-the-shelf identity to which so many other towns have sadly succumbed. The town’s individualism is something to celebrate.
"What some might call 'uppity' is actually simply a fierce determination to protect independent thought, freedom of speech and creativity. This is a wonderful attribute for a town and one that I, as the local MP, will do everything I can to help protect."
