Local MP’s Lewes bypass success begins next week

Lewes MP Norman Baker has today welcomed the news that the resurfacing of the Lewes Bypass will begin on the 13th of October.

For a number of years, Norman has been pressing the Highways Agency to resurface the bypass in an attempt to resolve the concerns that many constituents have about road noise. He has regularly raised the matter with Ministers and the Highways Agency and in June secured the resurfacing of the eastbound carriageway. The work has been confirmed and will take place over seven days, until the 20th of October between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

Commenting on the news, Norman said: "Many constituents have contacted me over a number of years to raise their understandable concerns about the noise coming from the road and I share these concerns. I have raised this problem with Ministers and the Highways Agency on a number of occasions over recent years and I am pleased that this work will now finally begin on the 13th.

"By the 20th, once the work is completed on the eastbound carriageway, we should hopefully see a marked improvement in the level of noise emissions from the Bypass and I know that local residents will welcome this. I do still have concerns that there are currently no plans to resurface the westbound carriageway, and I will continue to raise these concerns. However, the works beginning on the 13th are certainly welcomed, and are a step in the right direction."
