16th Oct: Norman welcomes return of buses to Lewes bus station site

After an absence of two years, Brighton and Hove Buses will from November 1st once again be using Lewes bus station.

The arrangement between the bus company and the bus station owners Rees Elliott has been initiated and brokered by Lewes MP Norman Baker who declares himself "absolutely delighted" by the result.

For the last two years, passengers wanting to use the Brighton&Hove service to Ringmer and beyond have had to stand on a narrow pavement in East Street, with no seats and no shelter, in full view of the underused bus station.

Norman says: "It is ridiculous to force passengers to wait on an exposed narrow pavement in East Street, when there is a ready-made bus station just yards away.

"I am delighted to have been able to persuade Rees Elliott to allow the buses back in, and I thank and commend Martin Elliott for responding in this positive way. I also welcome the constructive attitude shown by Roger French at Brighton&Hove Buses.

"I wanted to get this matter resolved before the winter."
