Norman joined local councillor Roy Martin, library staff and residents in a celebration of the library's history.
Norman said: "Polegate library has provided an important community service since 1968. I am delighted to join local residents and councillors to celebrate the work of staff, and to support the future development of the library. Libraries provide a important service for local people young and old to access information and literature. They have also been crucial in allowing people to access IT and the internet, who may not otherwise have been able to."
Local county councillor, Roy Martin added: "I know many local people who use Polegate Library and consider it to be an important local service."
Library managers invited local people to come to the party and enjoy storytelling in the morning, face painting, computer taster sessions and a display of local photographs. Residents were encouraged to bring in anecdotes and photos to help make a memory book of Polegate.
