Local MP, Norman Baker, has today welcomed the news that the mini-roundabout on Lewes Road which junctions with Valley Road, Newhaven, will be subject to a safety review to be undertaken by the County Council.
The news came in a response from Rupert Clubb, the Director of Transport and Environment at East Sussex County Council, to a letter that the MP wrote on behalf of a concerned constituent. The constituent had highlighted examples of vehicles driving along Lewes Road and not stopping or slowing down at the mini-roundabout.
Commenting on the news, Norman said: "Injuries have occurred at this junction in the past and this is of course a cause for concern. I have also personally witnessed cars not stopping at this junction and I fear it is only a matter of time before another accident occurs. Too many drivers heading south fail to realize that there is now a need to give way at this junction. I therefore welcome Mr Clubb's considered response to the concerns that have been raised and support the review of the layout and signs at this location."
