Local MP Norman Baker has today announced the winners of his annual Christmas Card Competition.
Every year Norman holds a regular Christmas Card Competition in which he encourages the Primary Schools in his constituency to get their pupils to design either the front cover of the card or write the poem for the inside. Each year has a different theme, and this year it was 'Christmas in Sussex'.
The winning design and poem will feature on Norman's Christmas card, and the children who produced the winning entries will receive a gift voucher and a tour of Parliament. Prizes will also be given for 2nd place, as well as a 'best in school' for every school that enters.
Norman received a massive response to his competition this year, with 13 schools from across his constituency contributing over 300 entries.
In order to judge the many entries, Norman was joined this year by Colin McKenzie, the Director of the Charleston Trust, as well as Robin Harris, a former member of Norman's staff.
Norman said: "All three of us found it very difficult to choose a winner from the wide variety of entries that I received.
"The artwork and poetry from the pupils was of a high quality, and I was very impressed to see how they captured aspects of Sussex at Christmas time, such as the South Downs and Lewes Castle.
"Eventually, and after much deliberation, we settled on the Christmas Card design by Anya de Silva of Southover Primary School, and the poem by Miriam Segal of Plumpton Primary School as the winners."
