Local MP demands town centre traffic rethink

Lewes MP Norman Baker has today written to the Director of Transport and Environment at East Sussex County Council, Rupert Clubb, requesting that he change the traffic priorities at the junction of Fisher Street and West Street in the town from those that are presently operating to what was in place in recent weeks during the roadworks in the town.

In his letter, the MP argues that during the recent roadworks the priorities were reversed, giving traffic from Fisher Street priority over that coming off of the Offham Road, and that during this period the flow of traffic was improved.

In particular, Norman states that the altered traffic priorities meant that traffic from the Offham Road had to slow down - thus reducing the risks of accidents, and also that traffic from Fisher Street was less likely to back up down to the High Street and beyond, as it does occasionally at present.
