Local MP Norman Baker has today outlined his support for Greenpeace's new measures towards stimulating the economy, tackling fuel poverty and helping to meet climate change targets.
The measures, set out by Greenpeace ahead of today's jobs summit at 10 Downing Street, encourage the Government to invest in an energy efficiency programme which will require thousands of skilled builders, fitters and joiners.
The recommendations, which reaffirm those set out in the Liberal Democrats' "Green Road out of the Recession", launched last month, also suggest that the government tackle fuel poverty by improving energy efficiency, which would help to reduce household bills, and produce financial incentives for householders to reduce their energy efficiency.
"The Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for some time for the adoption of more energy efficient policies such as these. By implementing the recommendations released today, the government could help our economy in both the long and the short term.
"Adopting energy efficiency policies would help to create jobs and could cut costs for many homes and businesses. At a time when the economy is clearly struggling, this approach could help millions across the country.
"The government has an opportunity to take the lead on climate change which it must not waste. It must take these recommendations seriously and implement them now to safeguard our economy and environment for years to come."
