Lewes MP Norman Baker has today hailed the reinstatement of a high-speed direct train service between Ashford and Brussels, which will again operate from 23 February 2009.
The service was initially axed in 2007, but following extensive campaigning by Mr Baker and others against the decision, Eurostar, who operate the service, agreed to its reintroduction. This was delayed by last year's fire, but Eurostar informed Mr Baker last week that the service will finally be reinstated from next month. Eurostar have also announced that they will be reintroducing faster services through the Channel Tunnel to Paris and Lille from the same date.
Commenting, Lib Dem Norman Baker said:
"I have long campaigned for the reinstatement of a direct service between Ashford and Brussels. Businesses in my constituency will benefit from the reintroduction of this service, so I am very pleased that this decision has been made."
