30th July: Local MP praises council for action over speed limits outside primary school

Seaford's MP, Norman Baker, has today praised East Sussex County Council for deciding to conduct a feasibility study into the adoption of a part-time 20mph speed restriction along Sutton Avenue, Steyne Road, Arundel Road, and Southdown Avenue. This would include the area outside Annecy RC Primary School, which is on Sutton Avenue.

Norman recently called for East Sussex County Council to bring in variable part-time 20mph speed limits outside of schools as a result of a Parliamentary Question that he asked, in which the Transport Minister Paul Clark confirmed that local authorities have the power to do so.

The council has decided to investigate the possibility of a part time speed restriction, as it is believed that this will have more impact than a blanket restriction at the times of the day when it is needed most.

Speaking on the issue, Norman said: "I am glad to see that East Sussex County Council is taking seriously the issue of speed limits outside schools.

"I welcome this move, and will continue to press the council to introduce similar measures outside other schools in my constituency."
