21st Oct: Local MP keeps up the pressure on Plumpton rail services

Local MP Norman Baker is stepping up his campaign to secure better train services for Plumpton. He has recently raised the issue in face to face meetings with both the Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis, whom he shadows and also the Managing Director of Southern, Chris Burchell.

Norman is lobbying for a timetable that will provide an hourly service throughout the day to Plumpton. Over the years, the MP has pressed for better services for Plumpton and the number of stopping trains has gradually increased. Now he is asking Southern to fill the gap with an hourly service throughout the day, which he believes will give predictability to the timetable and so increase patronage.

Norman is also arguing for improvements to evening peak services to Plumpton, which were adversely affected by the timetable change introduced last December.

Speaking on the issue, Norman said: "I have regular meetings with both the Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis and Southern's Managing Director, Chris Burchell in my capacity as Lib Dem Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, and will continue to use the opportunity this provides to lobby for the rail users of Plumpton and beyond."
