1st Dec: Local MP Norman Baker takes on government to demand Blair is held to account over Iraq

Lewes MP Norman Baker took on the government on the floor of the Commons this afternoon to demand that the Chilcot Inquiry into the Iraq War holds Tony Blair to account for his role in leading Britain towards the war.

During Foreign Office questions this afternoon, Lib Dem MP Norman Baker challenged the Foreign Secretary, David Miliband:

"At the end of the first week of the Chilcot Inquiry, it must now be painfully obvious to everyone both that the Hutton Inquiry of 2003 was useless, and that Tony Blair gravely misled this House and the country.

"Given that the Chilcot Inquiry is a non-statutory Inquiry, what steps will the Minister take to ensure that Mr Blair and his close allies at the time are properly held to account for the enormity of what they did?

Foreign Secretary David Miliband responded by saying that he believed the Chilcot Inquiry to be doing a "professional and clear" job, and stated that he would not be drawing any conclusions until the Inquiry has been completed.
