Lewes MP Norman Baker has today welcomed the news that Newhaven Town station has been re-accredited under the Department for Transport's "Secure Stations" scheme, and congratulated Southern on recent improvements to the station.
The Department has included the station within the scheme in recognition of the fact that it has retained national standards in station, passenger, and staff security.
Norman Baker commented:
"It is good news for passengers locally that Newhaven Town station has been reaccredited within the "Secure Stations" scheme. Credit must go to Southern and to the station's staff, who have worked hard to provide a safe environment for passengers.
"More generally, I have long argued for improvements to Newhaven Town station, so I am delighted that the booking hall has recently been redecorated, new furniture has been introduced, and the station has been repainted.
"What Newhaven now needs in terms of railway is further enhancement of Newhaven Town through the provision of car parking facilities."
