10th Feb: Local MP pledges to support the Armed Forces family

Local MP Norman Baker has pledged to do his bit for the British Armed Forces family. The pledge was made via the Royal British Legion's campaign website at www.timetodoyourbit.org.uk.

In making the pledge, Norman agreed to support the Royal British Legion's election manifesto, which includes promises to:

Improve and keep the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme under continual review.
Stop breaches of harmony guidelines (deployment rates) in order to reduce family separation and breakdown.
Provide bereaved Armed Forces families with independent legal ad ice during inquests.
Introduce an Independent Advisory Committee on military deaths.
Make NHS priority treatment work for veterans with injuries caused by service in the Armed Forces.
Tackle poverty among older veterans and widows.

Speaking on the issue, Norman said: "I was delighted to support the Royal British Legion's campaign. They play an important role in highlighting the needs of the whole Armed Forces family.

"I have pledged to do my bit, and I would encourage everyone to visit the website in order to find out how they can get involved in the campaign."
