31st Aug: "Speed review on the A26 is secured", says local MP

The Highways Agency has confirmed that funding has been secured for this financial year to carry out a speed limit review along the A26. This announcement has been welcomed by the local MP, Norman Baker.

The local MP has been in ongoing correspondence with the Highways Agency about safety on the A26, following a spate of accidents in recent years. For instance, between 2006 and 2008 there were 28 accidents on the A26, one of which was fatal, eight were serious and nineteen were slight.

The Highways Agency has now agreed to carry out a speed review in this financial year. The review will analyse accidents and causation along the whole of the A26 trunk-road and the report is programmed to be completed by the end of the year.

Commenting Norman said: "I am pleased that the Highways Agency has agreed to my request for a speed review on the A26. There have been many accidents on this road over the years, some of which have unfortunately been very serious indeed, and a number constituents have contacted me to raise their concerns about the road's safety. This review should ensure that aspects of safety are fully considered and will hopefully result, in the long-term, with accidents being entirely minimised".
