A number of residents of Hazeldene, Seaford, have had their council tax banding reduced from F to E, following the intervention of their local MP, Norman Baker.
The local MP was contacted by a concerned resident who believed that their banding was incorrect after identical properties in the road were found to be in a lower banding. The local MP took the matter up with the Valuation Office Authority and requested that an immediate review take place in light of the concerns presented to him.
In response to the MP's representations, the Local Listings Officer at the VOA has recently written to the MP to confirm that the review has been concluded and that the banding has been revised, downwards. This re-banding represents a yearly reduction from £2334.70 to £1975.51 - equating to a saving of £359.19.
Commenting Norman said: "Council tax forms a large part of household outgoings and it is crucial to ensure that, when evidence to the contrary is provided, a review takes place to ensure the bandings are correct, and that households are being charged the correct amount. This is particularly important in the current economic climate when everyone is feeling the pinch, and I was therefore very happy to take my constituents' concerns up with the VOA, and pleased to know that review has been successful."
