28th Oct: Lewes Vic's Minor Injuries Unit back to normal operating hours

Lewes Victoria's Minor Injuries Unit will be back to full operating hours from the 1st of November in a move welcomed by Lewes's MP, Norman Baker.

In July this year, the PCT announced cuts to the operating hours of the Unit at the Victoria Hospital as a result of staff sickness, staff vacancies and maternity leave, with the result being the closure of the Unit on the 20th, 21st and 22nd, in addition to reduced operating hours of 9am to 5pm for what at the time was the foreseeable future. The local MP denounced this in July this year stating that "it was simply not good enough to reduce this essential service", and he wrote to the Chief Executive, Mike Wood, to say just that.

However, this week has brought good news. In an email to the MP, the PCT has confirmed that from the 1st of November the Lewes MIU will be back to normal operating hours, operating seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.

Commenting Norman said: "The MIU at the Victoria Hospital provides a vital service and the reduced operating hours were an issue of real concern, and I made that clear to the Chief Executive of the PCT. I do not doubt that local residents found the temporary reduction to the service a real problem, but I am glad that we are now moving past that and the MIU will be back to full operating hours by next week."
