4th Oct: More power to MP's elbow

Local MP, Norman Baker, has successfully warned off UK Power Networks (UKPNs) from scheduling a power cut at Broyle Place Farm, which was due to take place on Friday 7th October.

On the 27th September, Broyle Place Farm, a community of 11 small businesses in Ringmer, received the news that UKPNs had scheduled at short notice an emergency power cut for the 7th October, between 0830hrs and 1600hrs, cutting right through the working day. The planned power cut was scheduled in order to replace and upgrade a pole mounted transformer.

With the prospect of losing a day's business and thousands of pounds in lost revenue, the picture looked bleak. However, after receiving a call from Anthony Tasker, the owner of the Broyle Place Farm site, Norman took up the cause going straight to the top with Basil Scarsella, Chief Executive of UKPNs. As a result UKPNs changed its plans and decided to reschedule the planned shutdown to be done over a weekend.

Commenting Norman said: "I very much welcome the decision by UKPNs to reschedule the works to a more suitable time. Small businesses are having a tough time as it is, without this sort of unnecessary problem."
